My Top 5 Film Soundtracks.

This will be my quick ranking of my Top 5 Favourite Film Soundtracks of all time.

*Note This list will only contain OST (Original Soundtracks)

5: Michael Giacchino, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story– The first time a Star Wars film didn’t have John Williams at the helm of the musical score. This quite obviously would be very daunting as a composer adding to the list of 6 other, highly respected, soundtracks. In my opinion Giacchino absolutely smashed it. It captured the essence of what made the other soundtracks so beautiful yet he added his own twists to it, slightly altering old and familiar themes.

4: Hans Zimmer, The Dark Knight– A name that is very much at the top of film composers and one who is highly respected by all film geeks, Hans Zimmer once again showed us that he is not to be messed with when it comes to a musical score. His hard-hitting violin melodies and cinematic chord progressions all add to make the Dark Knight an experience rather than just another super-hero film.

3: Hans Zimmer, Interstellar– It’s hard to make a top 5 soundtrack list without mentioning this guy more than once. His showcased continued success of OST’s when he came out with the score for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar. The soundtrack manages to incorporate many elements that create an atmosphere that surrounds the entire film and has me revisiting the soundtrack every now and again to remind me of how beautiful it was.

2: Geoff Barrow, Ben Salisbury & CUTS, Ex-Machina– A soundtrack filled with ambience and tension, this OST captures the drama and tense sequences through its expertly composed compositions. I love having this on in the background when I am working as it keeps me focussed and on track.

1: John Williams, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith– Yes the prequels get a lot of negative criticism but one thing that has never been criticised is the pure brilliance of the 3 soundtracks. In my opinion, Episode III has the most memorable pieces of music that really define the Star Wars Saga for me and , I’m sure every other fan.
